Our Mission
In times of turmoil and division, the documentary series OUR AMERICAS seeks to highlight all the connections that unite the countries and peoples of our continent, from our history to the richness of our shared cultural heritage that manifests in our music, food, beliefs, books, and even sports.
We hope that viewers will take away a feeling of closer connection not only to each other but to our land of magic and wonders…

1. Roads that Bind
A journey through the routes and spiritual guides that connected ancient civilizations and that still influence present-day nations.
2. Mother Earth
A review of how the natural world has been at times worshiped and at others exploited by the peoples of the Americas.
3. Continental Heroes
An ode to the heroic figures throughout the history of the Americas who have sought to unite the continent, from Simón Bolívar to Alexander Hamilton.
4. African Roots
A walk-through revealing the cultural and spiritual connections between the Americas and Africa, including music and religion.
5. Slaves of Civilization
A chronicle of the slaves that built the great civilizations, from the Aztecs and Incas to the Spanish Conquista, the African slave trade, and current Hispanic undocumented workers in the U.S.
6. Flow of Life
An exploration of how water has been a point of connection and reverence throughout the Americas rather than conflict.
7. Literally Magical
A review of how a sense of the magical is entrenched in the cultures of the Americas, starting with the mythologies and continuing today with magical realism literature.
8. Sacred Games
A spotlight on the connection between today’s sports (mainly baseball and football [soccer]) and the ball games of the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, making sports almost a holy endeavor.
9. Food from the Gods
A review of the staple foods of the Americas, linked together by flavor, tradition, and maize.
10. Elders & Ancestors
A homage to the role of ancestors in the Americas.

Our Team

Alex Garcia Topete
Writer-Director & Producer
Alex Garcia Topete is a writer and filmmaker with more than 15 years of experience working in the media industry in Mexico and the United States, having worked in series development for Sony Pictures Television International (2010), as executive producer for shows on National Public Radio’s digital platform (2010), and as writer-director of sketch shows for Mexico’s Televisa del Golfo (2006-2007), among others. He has written, directed, and produced the independent features Trippers (2010) and Vamps, Blood & Smoking Guns (2012), as well as the independent sitcom The Realty (2019-), the edutainment web series HablandoTV (2015-) and the docu-series Our Americas (2016-). In addition, Alex has been a festival programmer since 2007 for several film festivals, including the Dallas International Film Festival and the Festival de Cine Latino Americano of North Texas (FDCLA), of which he’s an original co-founder.
Alex is also a researcher and entrepreneur currently pursuing a dual master’s degree and doctorate in Arts, Technology and Emerging Communications at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Margaret Donnelly
Executive Producer
Margaret has been a certified Immigration and Nationality lawyer since 1980. She’s also an award-winning book author, political advocate, educator, and passionate supporter of community throughout the Americas.
